Cycling in Ibiza offers unforgettable experiences — and none more so than this. Some routes are just routes. And then there is the Es Vedrà bike tour — the ride that stays with cyclists long after they have left the island. Not because of the climbing, but because of that moment when you round a corner and the iconic rock appears before you, rising straight from the sea.

The Magic of Es Vedrà

Es Vedrà is no ordinary rock. The uninhabited island rises more than 400 metres straight out of the sea, silent and inaccessible. Local legend speaks of sirens, magnetic energy, and compass anomalies reported by sailors and pilots alike. At sunset, the light around it is unlike anything else on the island. The Es Vedrà Cycling Route

Bike Ibiza runs this guided cycling tour in Ibiza with departure from the charming village of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. From there you ride via narrow winding roads through pine forests, heading southwest towards Cala d’Hort — the cove that sits directly facing Es Vedrà.

Which Bike?

E-bike: Our recommended choice and our most requested. The area around Cala d’Hort is never flat — the roads climb and descend constantly. An e-bike makes those climbs genuinely enjoyable and leaves you free to take in every view. Some cycling experience is recommended. Departure: Sant Josep.

MTB: Also possible from Sant Josep, but only for riders with very good physical condition. There is nothing flat in this area. On a standard hired MTB without motor assistance, this is a serious physical challenge.

Road bike or gravel: We depart from Sant Jordi or Santa Eulària. Starting from Santa Eulària, count on a tour of at least 5 hours. Ideal for experienced cyclists who want to combine a longer ride with the spectacular finish at Cala d’Hort.

Why This Route is Something Special

The landscape changes constantly. You start in the flatter coastal areas, ride through Sant Josep, and climb steadily via narrow winding roads through pine forests. On the higher sections you can see the sea on both sides of the island at once.

The descent to Cala d’Hort. The final kilometres are the most spectacular. The road drops steeply to the coast, and at the end a panorama opens up: cliffs, open sea, and directly in front of you — Es Vedrà.

The quiet return. Cyclists riding the route as a loop return via the island’s interior — past vineyards, ancient fincas, and the windmills of Sant Antoni.

Practical Tips

Take your time at the viewpoint. Es Vedrà asks for stillness. Bring a snack and let the moment sink in.

Start early. In summer, be on the road before 9h. The climbs are manageable in the morning and the viewpoint is yours before the day-trippers arrive.

Bring water. There are very few shops on the route to Cala d’Hort.
